What needs to be discussed with the doctor?

Your health care provider will need to be warned of any health conditions you have or used to have, as some of them may affect the success of your treatment. The following ones are important to mention: liver disease, kidney disease, heart rhythm disorder, history of Long QT syndrome, or myasthenia gravis. Make sure you also mention any other ones that you think may be important – even though they may not be on the list provided above. Certain medical conditions you have may require a dose adjustment – your doctor will decide whether you need to take more or less than the usual dose of Zithromax. Other conditions may require closer monitoring by your doctor – in that case your health care provider will need to see you often to make sure the treatment is going just as planned and you are benefitting from it. Zithromax is FDA pregnancy category B – this antibiotic is not expected to harm to an unborn baby and can be taken by children. However, it is not known for sure whether Zithromax can pass into breast milk. Although the risks for your baby are minimal, you always need to tell your doctor about the fact of being pregnant before starting the treatment. If you happen to get pregnant while using Zithromax – call your doctor at once to see if there are any other steps you are required to take. Please report to your health care provider any medications you are taking or have recently taken that are known to cause interactions These may be any prescription or over-the-counter drugs, such as digoxin, pimozide, cholesterol-lowering medicines, other antibiotics, carbamazepine, triazolam, phenytoin, warfarin, calcium channel blockers, HIV medicines, theophylline, cyclosporine, or ergot medicines, as well as any herbal supplement or vitamins. Some drug interactions can lower the efficiency of your treatment while other ones are likely to worse some of your side effects. Drug interactions can be easily avoided- just make sure you notify your health care provider of your plans to start using some new medicine. If you are not sure the drugs you are taking belong to any of the groups listed – consult your pharmacies or your doctor for more information and avoid taking the two medicines together until advised to do so. Besides other drugs you are using and medical conditions you have that can prevent you from safely taking Zithromax there are lots of other things your doctor may be interested in. In fact, you may need to follow a slightly different diet while on Zithromax and avoid certain products. All that is decided for every patient individually, so you will have to follow al the recommendations that your doctor provides. It’s very important to be honest with your doctor and avoid hiding any information that may be important while using Zithromax. Doing otherwise can render your treatment less efficient and you will be unable benefit for taking Zithromax as much as you could.
